March/April Newsletter: BINGO News

According to historical records and memories of a few of our Brother Knights, the Fall of 2008 will mark the 50th year that Council 1214 has run BINGO in Fort Collins, CO. In 1958, Brother Knights John J. Maloney, Jr - God rest his soul - and Fred Smith brought the idea of BINGO fundraisers from their councils in the Denver area. The leadership of Council 1214 decided with a lot of support from all the Brother Knights to start up BINGO as the primary fundraiser for their charitable causes. Thanks to the dedication of a lot of Knights, their wives and family members, BINGO has been the mainstay that fills our charity account and fulfills and needs of our Church, families and youth throughout our community.

A huge "Thank You" goes out to each and every person who has ever helped to make BINGO a success. A few challenges lie ahead for BINGO and a commitment from approximately 21 more Knights will be needed on a recurring monthly basis if we want to continue BINGO past our 50th Anniversary. Make plans to attend the March 5th planning meeting at the Hall beginning at 6:30pm to discuss the future of BINGO. We need everyone's input in order to be proactive rather than reactive toward the future of BINGO in our council.
